“Chronic kidney disease. His kidneys are failing. We need to talk about long-term options. Dialysis. A transplant.”
I felt the room tilt.
“A transplant?” I asked. “From whom?”
The doctor looked at me calmly.
“Sometimes a family member is a match. A spouse. A sibling. A parent. We can test.”
I didn’t even look at Daniel.
“I’ll do it,” I said.
Daniel shook his head immediately.
“Meredith, no. We don’t even know—”
“Then we’ll find out,” I said. “Test me.”
