When I’d cleared the plates, the woman leaned back, satisfied.

I tilted my head. “What do you mean?”

The boyfriend smiled. “You reached out.

We came back and made positive content for you.”

“So, that video you posted about the last time you were here, that was just because I didn’t comp the meal?”

The boyfriend laughed. “That’s how it works! If you want good optics, you need to work with big influencers like us, not against us.”

“You don’t seem to realize this, but we work hard at what we do.

If you’re not going to play by the rules, then don’t be surprised when you become a sensationalist piece.” The woman shrugged. “We need to get our likes one way or another.”

“Even if it hurts someone?” I asked.

“Why should we make good content for people who don’t appreciate us? God, we’re just asking for a free meal.”

I was quiet for a moment.

“I see,” I said eventually.
