Instructions
-
Place the potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold salted water.
-
Bring to a boil and cook until fork-tender, about 15–20 minutes.
-
Drain well and return to the pot.
-
Add butter and warm milk, then mash until creamy.
-
Season with salt and black pepper. Cover and keep warm.
2. Prepare the Steak
-
In a shallow bowl, combine flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
-
In another bowl, whisk together eggs and buttermilk.
-
Heat 1/2 inch of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
-
Fry steaks for 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate.
3. Make the Gravy
-
Pour off most of the frying oil, leaving about 4 tablespoons with the browned bits.
-
Stir in flour and cook for 1–2 minutes, whisking constantly.
-
Slowly add milk while whisking to avoid lumps.
-
Cook until thickened, 4–5 minutes. Season generously with salt and pepper.
-
Place a serving of mashed potatoes and fried steak on a plate.
-
Generously pour gravy over both.
-
Serve hot with a side of vegetables or salad.
