If the stain is particularly old or tenacious, don’t despair if it’s still faintly visible after the first wash. This is common for stains that have already been through the heat of a dryer.

Simply apply the Dawn erasing foam again (and again, if necessary). A second or even third targeted treatment and wash cycle usually does the trick, effectively obliterating stains that I had previously written off as permanent. The foam pulls out the grease layer by layer until the fabric is truly clean.

A Quick Word on Fabric: My successes so far have been limited to durable fabrics like cotton, polyester, and denim. If you are treating more delicate items, always remember the golden rule of stain removal: perform a spot test on an inconspicuous area first to ensure there are no color-lifting or texture-damaging mishaps.

Discovering this low-cost, highly-effective method has transformed one of my biggest household frustrations. I still don’t love doing laundry, but at least I’ve finally won the war against those infuriating set-in grease stains.
