Julia was already resting in the new care suite, her window overlooking a small garden filled with red tulips and one confused-looking scarecrow.
“You moved her,” he said.
“I moved all of us.
You just didn’t notice any of it until we were gone.”
“She hasn’t returned my calls, Penelope,” he said, dragging a hand down his face.
“She’s my mother, and I allowed her to stay here!”
“I cared for her, Eric! And I was your wife. Liana is your daughter, Leo is your son, but that didn’t stop you from sneaking around, did it?”
