Her daughter Meredith ran it now. The receptionist was young, polite, and visibly surprised to see me. Within minutes, Meredith stepped into the waiting room, shook my hand, and led me to her office.

She didn’t offer small talk—just waited for me to begin. I told her everything from the moment I arrived at the house to the photo missing my face. The dinner I was never told about, and the deed to the cabin—transferred without my knowledge.

She asked for the papers. I handed them over. Meredith read in silence.

Her face remained calm, but her eyes darkened slightly. When she finished, she leaned back and said she’d seen this before. Not the exact situation, but similar patterns.

Quiet power of attorney documents. Elderly parents signed off of assets without full understanding. Properties moved into holding companies that quietly cut the original owner out.

I asked what could be done. She said she would start by researching the LLC—finding out who set it up, when, and whether my name had been used legally. She would also look into any recent legal filings in my name—power of attorney, changes to estate plans—anything suspicious.

I left her office with a file folder and her card. She told me not to speak to Miles or Renee until we knew more. I nodded.
