Susan’s mouth fell open. “Gran, that’s—”
She frowned. “A condition?”
“It’s very simple…”
“First of all, your brothers mustn’t know,” I added. “This has to stay between us. It’s our secret.
Can you do that?”
I could see the wheels turning in Susan’s head.
“What do I have to do?” she asked carefully.
She blinked.
“You mean just you and me? Like, spending time together?”
I nodded.
“Okay, Gran. I can do that.”
I smiled. I had high hopes for Susan, but I wasn’t putting all my eggs in one basket.
After I left her house, I made four more stops.
