I stopped to help an elderly couple stranded on a snowy highway with a flat tire, never thinking it would change my life. A week later, my mom called in a panic: “Stuart! Turn on the TV—now!”

I’m a single dad to seven-year-old Emma. Her mother left when she was three, so it’s just been the two of us. Holidays can be chaotic, but my parents always make them special.

That Thanksgiving, on the way to my parents’ house, I saw an elderly couple stranded on the roadside. Without hesitation, I pulled over and helped them change the tire, freezing in the snow as Emma watched proudly from the car. The couple was deeply grateful, but the moment passed, and we carried on to Thanksgiving dinner.
