“I didn’t think,” he said. “I just moved.”
He rolled his eyes. “Please don’t call me that.”
That night, sleep didn’t come easily.
The next morning, a sharp knock rattled the door.
A police officer stood outside.
“I’m Officer Reyes,” he said. “I need to speak with your son.”
My chest tightened.
“No trouble,” he added quickly.
Noah came downstairs, froze when he saw the uniform.
Reyes smiled faintly.
