For a long moment, we stood there, two women who had never been enemies until he needed us to be.
Serena reached for her ring, sliding it off slowly. “I need air,” she said, and left the room without another word.
I picked up my coat.
“You think this makes you powerful,” he muttered as I passed him.
I paused. “No,” I said. “It makes me free.”
Months passed.
The fallout was quieter than people expected. No headlines. No dramatic collapse. Just doors that stopped opening. Calls that went unanswered. Serena filed for separation and, unlike me, had entered the marriage with her eyes open enough to protect herself.
