“WHAT??” he said finally.
“She said Sophie isn’t her blood, and she didn’t want her in your photos. Sophie was crying and scared, so I left.”
His breathing became uneven.
“Laura, why didn’t you tell me right there?”
“Because Sophie was already humiliated,” I replied. “I wasn’t going to make her stand in the middle of a fight at your wedding.”
Another pause, then quieter. “Did she push her?”
“Yes.”
“I didn’t see anything,” he whispered.
“I know you didn’t.”
His voice cracked.
“How dare she?”
