I hope it was worth it.”
As for me? I learned something important that week. I learned that family isn’t always the people you’re born to.
And sometimes, the people who let you down can learn to do better. Not because they want to, but because someone who loves them refuses to let them fail.
Luke’s a good father now.
A great one, actually. But every time he tucks our son into bed and gets up for a 2 a.m. feeding without complaining, he chooses us over himself.
And I know exactly why.
His mother taught him that being a parent isn’t about the moments when it’s easy and fun. It’s about showing up when it’s hard. When you’re exhausted.
When every bone in your body wants to quit.
It’s about being there. Even when no one’s watching. And thank God someone finally taught him that lesson before it was too late.
