Something hot flashed through my chest.

“Did you feed them?”

“I tried. They didn’t want the bottles.”

“Did you change them?”

He waved his hand vaguely.

“Probably? I don’t know, Ava.

They just want you. They always want you. I didn’t even get to take a nap.”

I stood there, still in my scrubs, keys dangling from my hand.

“You didn’t get to nap?” I repeated slowly.

“Yeah.
