The room went completely silent.
Ethan’s father’s face drained of color. His mother’s hand went to her throat.
“I did it because it was right.”
He looked back at me. “I raised my daughter to know her worth. And to never be ashamed of where she comes from.”
No one moved or whispered.
Ethan’s parents looked like they’d been struck.
I stood up, hands shaking.
“My father is staying,” I announced.
“He’s not going anywhere.”
The room remained silent.
I looked directly at Ethan’s parents.
“I’m proud of him.”
