“No.” His voice broke just enough to hurt.
“You don’t get to explain this away. Not today.”
Someone near the back whispered, “Oh my God.”
Dad straightened.
“I won’t pretend this marriage is something worth celebrating.”
A collective inhale swept the room.
He set the microphone down. The feedback squealed for a second.
That’s when I stood.
I locked gazes with Lacey.
“I’m leaving,” I declared.
My dad stepped away from the table with my mom at his side. An aunt followed. Then an uncle.
Then two of my cousins.
I walked past Lacey. She wouldn’t meet my eyes.
