The words coming out of his mouth chilled me to the bone. “Don’t worry, honey. It’s a one-way ticket.

In that moment, standing behind the door of my own house, I took a deep breath and thought:
If that’s how it’s going to be, dear, then we’ll do it your way. But you will regret this three times over.

Because my only son—the boy I raised with so much love—had just made the biggest mistake of his life. If Michael thought his mother was a helpless old woman, he was about to find out just how wrong he was.
