“He talked about you both all the time,” she said. “Mostly with warmth.
Ted shifted beside me, arms crossed.
“That’s true,” Jennifer agreed, nodding slightly. “But Rick felt like he was always watching from the edge.
Close enough to feel the warmth, but never quite in the circle.”
I leaned forward, trying to process the space between her words.
“That’s not how it was. We weren’t perfect, sure, but we included him.”
