Her hands fidgeted in her lap, and her shoulders sagged like they were carrying invisible bricks.
“Charlie,” she mumbled when I approached.

Her voice cracked. “Like a failure.”
I blinked.
“What happened to you, Miranda? What happened to Marco? The yachts?
The perfect life you threw us away for?”
Her lip trembled, and tears started spilling down her cheeks. “He was a fraud, Charlie. He wasn’t some wealthy businessman.
I have nothing.”
I sat back, stunned. “Are you serious?”
She nodded, wiping her face with her sleeve. “I thought he loved me.
I thought I’d finally found happiness. But it was all a lie.”
