“You’re not afraid of Catherine?”

“No, honey.”

“Never, sweetie. You will always be my daughter… always.

Love doesn’t split into pieces. It grows.”

I knelt beside them, tears streaming down my face. “Emma, I’m not here to take your dad away.

I’m here to love you both. You’re part of this family… always. And if we ever have a baby, that baby will have the best big sister in the world.”

She threw her arms around both of us, sobbing.

“It’s okay, baby,” Mark said.

“You’re my whole heart, Emma. You and Catherine.”

And for the first time all day, I felt like I could breathe.

Later that night, we sat on the porch with Emma between us.

“I have an idea,” Mark said suddenly.

“What?”

“I want to make new vows. Right here.
