It began quietly, almost innocuously. My assistant, Claudia Vega, had been with me for nearly ten years. She was more than an assistant—she managed everything: financial accounts, travel arrangements, charitable work, and even the small personal milestones, like remembering my children’s birthdays. Claudia bypassed me entirely when she first approached my parents. She did not call me—she called them.
