Chapter 4: Confrontation and Justice

When I confronted Claudia, the mask of sweetness she wore for a decade disappeared instantly.

“They were easy to manipulate. Don’t blame me for their stupidity,” she said coldly, then ended the call.

The authorities, however, did not allow her to vanish from justice. Their investigation uncovered offshore accounts, false identities, and a complex network targeting the elderly. Claudia was far more than a simple thief—she had built an organized, cross-border fraud empire. Eventually, she and her accomplices were arrested. My parents regained their home, and most of the stolen funds were recovered.

Chapter 5: Rebuilding Trust

The emotional aftermath was more complicated than the financial recovery. My mother now locks windows twice before sleeping. My father ignores calls from unknown numbers. And I, someone whose career depended on understanding and trusting people, found myself struggling to trust my own instincts.
