In addition to the pressures of public scrutiny, Field has dealt with personal health challenges. She has been open about her battle with osteoporosis, a silent condition that affects bone density and is particularly prevalent in women post-menopause.
Field was diagnosed with the disease before turning 60 in 2005, a development she admits was difficult to accept.
“I always knew I fit the risk profile. I was thin, small-boned, Caucasian, and heading towards age 60. But I was amazed at how quickly a woman could go from being at risk to having full-fledged osteoporosis,” she told WebMD.
Her diagnosis underscores the reality that even those who maintain a healthy lifestyle and exercise regimen are not immune to certain health conditions.
