My entire world tilted.
She sighed impatiently. “I don’t want drama. But Jake promised he’d get us an apartment downtown. He says he can’t because you’re draining all his money.”
I gripped my desk, terrified to breathe. “I’m spending his… what?”
She laughed mockingly. “He told me everything. That you’re clingy. Boring. And basically useless. Honestly, he deserves someone better.”
Every word felt like a punch. “Why are you telling me this?”
“So you’ll let him go,” she said smoothly. “Step aside and let Jake be with someone who actually makes him happy. Me.”
The call ended before I could get out a single word.
I sat motionless for a long time, replaying everything. Was she lying? Was Jake capable of something this cruel?
I wasn’t sure which possibility scared me more.
