“Sir… may I sit here for a minute?”
Before Lucas could respond, Shadow stood up.
Not with a growl. Not with raised hackles or bared teeth.
But with sudden, unmistakable intent.
The dog wasn’t focused on the girl at all.
His attention was fixed beyond her—toward the café entrance. Nothing there seemed out of place to the casual eye, yet Shadow’s posture said otherwise. His body was alert, expectant, as if he had already identified a threat and was simply waiting for it to show itself.
Lucas felt the shift instantly.
He placed a calm, steady hand on Shadow’s shoulder, grounding him.
