She’d stopped Hannah from calling friends. She’d taken away Hannah’s phone and told her it was because “kids don’t need distractions.” Meals became smaller. Rules became harsher.
And every day Hannah had to “earn” normal things by doing exhausting chores. All under the excuse of “teaching humility.”
Adrian didn’t blink much after that. Because every blink felt like he might explode.

That night, Adrian didn’t sleep. He sat beside Hannah’s bed and listened to her breathing like it was the only proof left that he still had her. Before dawn, he went to his office downstairs.
