A woman who was pregnant was begging for bread in our bakery.

She had no money, but I gave her a loaf of bread.

She smiled, handed me a hairpin, and said, “You’ll need this someday.”

The owner fired me. I kept the pin, not expecting anything major.

Six weeks later, my blood ran cold when I found… a letter hidden in the pocket of my old apron from that very woman.

It simply read: “Kindness sometimes comes at a cost, but it never goes unrewarded.”

That same evening, after weeks of job hunting, I passed a bustling coffee shop with a “Person Wanted” sign. With nothing to lose, I went in.
