Political leaders react: “Public Murder”
As the footage continued to circulate, condemnation poured in from Democratic lawmakers.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez described the killing as a “public murder.”
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey delivered an emotional and furious response during a press conference shortly after the shooting.
“There’s little I can say, again, that’ll make this situation better,” Frey said. “But I do have a message for our community, for our city, and I have a message for ICE.”
“To ICE, get the f— out of Minneapolis,” he raged.
“They are not here to cause safety in this city. What they are doing is not to provide safety in America. What they are doing is causing chaos and distrust,” Frey continued. “They’re ripping families apart. They’re sowing chaos on our streets and in this case quite literally killing people.”
“They are already trying to spin this as an action of self defense. Having seen the video myself, I wanna tell everybody directly, that is b-hit,” he added.
