We all know that feeling: we open the refrigerator looking for a snack… and then, an unpleasant smell immediately kills our appetite. Forgotten cheese, poorly wrapped leftovers, or a mixture of food aromas… whatever the cause, it’s never pleasant.
Fortunately, there are simple, natural, and economical ways to keep your refrigerator fresh and pleasant. Some of these ideas might even surprise you!

The toilet paper roll (yes, really!)

Newspaper, a classic but useful method
Not convinced by toilet paper in the kitchen? Newspaper works just as well. Crumple up a few damp sheets, place them in the refrigerator compartments, and change them every two or three days. Bonus tip: you can also use it to line the shelves and prolong the freshness.
-
A simple piece of bread
Stale bread is a surprisingly effective natural solution. Besides its pleasant, familiar aroma, it absorbs moisture. Place a small piece in a saucer and let it sit: it will act as a natural filter for about a week.
-
Orange or mandarin peels

Don’t throw away your citrus peels! Orange or mandarin peels release a fresh and pleasant fragrance, ideal for neutralizing unpleasant odors. Place one or two in a corner of the refrigerator and replace them every three days.

The classic: baking soda
A household cleaning essential: baking soda is also very effective against odors. Pour two or three tablespoons into a small, open bowl and place it on a shelf. It will absorb odors for several weeks.
