How to react in case of brake failure on a vehicle

Test your brakes repeatedly

 

Your brakes might still be partially functional.

Press the brake pedal several times quickly to check their responsiveness.

Why is this method effective?

  • If your vehicle is equipped with a  hydraulic braking system , the pressure may be low. Pumping the pedal may  partially restore braking capacity .
  • If the pedal is completely soft and unresponsive, proceed to the next step.

Gradually reduce speed by downshifting.
