Greg nodded. “I didn’t know about her at all. Her mother and I dated years before I met you. She never told me she was pregnant.”
Sophie’s voice softened. “My mom passed away earlier this year. While going through her things, I found Dad’s name on my birth certificate. I didn’t have anyone else.”
“I was trying to be a father,” Greg said, his eyes shining. “And now I’m about to be a grandfather. And still a husband who should’ve told you sooner.”
I sank onto the couch, the adrenaline draining from my body all at once. Fear gave way to relief, then something warm and unexpected.
Sophie sat beside me. “He talks about you all the time, you know. I was terrified you’d hate me.”
