Noah stared at the ground.
“I just didn’t want him to die,” he muttered.
After they left, my hands shook until I wrapped them around a mug of tea.
Noah sat at the table with hot chocolate.
“You okay?” I asked.
He shrugged.
“You did everything right,” I said. “Everything.”
